Historical Milestones
- 1896 — Founded by philanthropist Helen R. Greenfield as a liberal-arts college.
- 1935 — First PhD degrees awarded in Chemistry and Philosophy.
- 1964 — Medical Sciences Campus opened; university hospital now serves 320 000 patients annually.
- 1999 — Center for Environmental Policy launched (ranked #9 worldwide in 2024).
- 2015 — Achieved carbon-neutral electricity ten years ahead of schedule.
